Game Summary: Our 5th and final game of the series against Creemore was also our 54th game of the season. A consolation championship was on the line and our boys did not disappoint by pressuring the Hawks from the opening faceoff and closing out the series with our 1st shutout of the season.
After a scoreless 1st period, Jack "Rocket" Moylan got us on the scoreboard first with a beautiful wrist shot from the top of the slot that found the top corner. Shortly after that a streaking Adam Roper was able to slide one past the Hawks goalie to make it a 2-0 game heading into the 3rd period.
After some close calls at both ends of the ice and some missed breakaways our boys found themselves deep in our own end for a face-off. After 54 games, what happened next was without a doubt the best face-off that I have seen all year. Colin Seeley stepped up to take the draw and even though Creemore won the it, Colin did a great job tying up his Centerman while Jack and J-Rod locked up on their wingers, this allowed for Rope and Ray-Gun to streak through and head towards the Creemore D. Ray-Gun got to the puck first while Rope split their D. A beautiful pass by Ray-Gun between the 2 D and Rope was gone on a breakaway. A head fake and dropped shoulder move later and Rope made it a 3-0 game.
What a great end to a great series (and season). Creemore was a great opponent, pushing us to be our best. We ended up tying the Hawks 1-1 in the round robin and won the playoff series 3-2. Through our 7 games vs Creemore in the playoffs, we went 4-3 and outscored them 24-21, which just shows how evenly matched the 2 teams were and how hard we had to work.
A fitting end to to a great season as we saved our best for last. I am so proud of this group of players and happy to have been a part of this coaching staff and getting to know this great group of parents. Thank you for a great season. Go Wolves !!!
